About the Glossary
This Chinese-English Technical Patent glossary is a free online glossary of technical terms contained
in patent related documents. It is mainly compiled from technical and academic glossary of the following sources:
- Academic Terms by National Institute for Compilation and Translation (NICT)
- International Patent Classification (IPC), 8th ed. by WIPO (IPC8)
- Official Catchword Index to the 8th ed. of the IPC by WIPO (IPC Catchword)
- International Classification for Industrial Designs under the Locarno Agreement (Locarno)
- Taiwan Patent Abstracts (in English) by TIPO (TW Patent)
- Science and Technical Synonym by Science & Technology Policy Research and Information Center, National Applied Research Laboratories (STPI)
- Chinese Pharmacopoeia by Department of Health, Executive Yuan, R.O.C. (DOH)
- Electronic Theses and Dissertation System by National Central Library (NCL)
- Wikipedia, the Free Encyclopedia (WIKIPEDIA)
With this glossary, users can browse Chinese or English technical terms under any of the eight major IPC sections in order to narrow search fields. From the subclass lists, users can also better understand the detailed classifications within each section. A smart search, which uses text mining technology to automatically analyze searches and provides Chinese correlatives that are similar to the original search words, allows users to better understand related data. Also included is a feature of different wording/usage in China, a source provided by K.T. Li Foundation for the Development for Science and Technology, which corresponds to the original search words.
A total of approximately 1.88 million Chinese and English patent-related technical terms are included in the glossary.
